Winter is one of the most incredible times of the year.  Gone is the horrible heat from summer, and instead, you get holidays, a new year, and beautiful snow.  Unfortunately, it can still be one of the most dangerous seasons. Most people like to travel in winter but they always look for effective tips for traveling in winter. Even though some common injuries can catch you during winter.

Whether you’re nervous about the risk this season can bring, or you’re moving to an icier area and want to be safe, these are the three most common injuries people suffer from in the cold.

1- Falling from Ladders

Although by winter, you should be done cleaning out gutters and getting rid of debris on your roof, ladders are one of the most common causes of a fall in the winter.  Getting a new roof can be uneasy for you. From stringing up Christmas lights to doing repairs while your kids are out of school, there are plenty of times when ladders will be used: and lots of risk from them.

Ladders can range anywhere from five feet to well over twenty feet tall, and using the wrong ladder, setting it up incorrectly, or losing your balance while on a roof or higher surface can lead to countless issues.

This can get worse depending on how high up you are and what material or surface you land on.  The harder the surface and the higher the fall, the more danger and injury can result.  

2- Slipping on Ice and Snow

All of the ice and snow that comes with this season is absolutely beautiful, but it’s also dangerous!  Slipping and falling on ice can cause anything from spraining your wrist to fracturing your skull.  The best way to avoid slipping is to evenly and slowly apply pressure on every step and to pay attention to your surroundings as much as possible.  Avoid wearing shoes without any tactile grip since these will take even more control out of your hands.

If you slip and fall, avoid moving for a moment until you’ve accessed your injuries otherwise it can be a slip-and-fall accident.  If they’re bad, seek medical help depending on where you are and the circumstances of what happened to you. 3- Heart Attacks

Although heart attacks are one of the top causes of death year-round, they pick up in the winter.  This can be for countless reasons, but most experts agree that this comes from the cold, causing blood vessels to contract and raise blood pressure.  This increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, which can be deadly if not cared for immediately.  

Get to know the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, which will vary based on age and sex.  If someone you know is showing signs of a heart attack, call 911 and have them chew and swallow an Aspirin.  You may have to perform CPR depending on what the emergency operator says is appropriate.
