What is the Most Common Plastic Surgery?

Plastic Surgery

If you are thinking of having a plastic surgery procedure done in the near future, you may be wondering what the most common procedures and surgeries are. With the increase in plastic surgeries, the idea has now become mainstream, and much easier to discuss.

The most common procedures include both minimally invasive procedures as well as complex surgeries, and are probably the plastic surgeries that you would think of first if someone asked you to name one. If you are considering a procedure for yourself, helping a friend do some research, or just curious, here are the most common plastic surgery procedures:

Breast Surgeries

There are several breast surgeries that are at the top of the list for plastic surgery procedures. The most common, and what you may think of first when you think of plastic surgery, is breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation patients may receive two implants to increase the size of both breasts, or just one to make asymmetrical breasts more equal. Breast cancer survivors may also choose breast augmentation after a mastectomy.

Other breast surgeries include a breast lift and breast reduction. A breast lift helps to pull up sagging skin and can also help with breast shape. A breast reduction helps to reduce the size and weight of the breasts, which can relieve back pain and improve posture.

Facial Procedures

Another broad category of plastic surgeries that is popular is procedures done on the face or part of the face. Another procedure that you have probably heard of is a “facelift,” or what your plastic surgeon may refer to as a rhytidectomy. In this procedure, the skin of the face is tightened and lifted to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and aging.

Sometimes, people may choose to have other facial procedures done with a facelift, or they may choose to have them done on their own. Other popular procedures in the facial area include a forehead lift, which specifically pulls the skin of the forehead tighter to reduce the appearance of lines, and a nose job (rhinoplasty) which reshapes the nose.

Another popular and minimally invasive procedure that can be done on the face is dermabrasion, which buffs away the outer layer of skin to provide a more youthful appearance.

Liposuction

Liposuction is the removal of fat from certain parts of the body through suction. While liposuction is a surgical procedure, compared to other types of plastic surgery, which may require weeks of healing, if you get liposuction done, you can be back on your feet in a few days.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is also referred to as a lower body lift, and the medical term for the procedure is abdominoplasty. In this procedure, the plastic surgeon will remove any excess skin in the abdominal area and stretch the remaining skin tight to give the appearance of a smooth abdomen.

Patients who would like to have a tummy tuck generally should not have any excess fat, only excess skin. If there is excess fat, liposuction may be a first step before the tummy tuck.

There are many plastic surgery procedures that have become popular recently. From breast surgeries and facial procedures to liposuction and tummy tucks, there are many options for plastic surgery.
